How long does refinishing take?
The schedule needs to include drying between applications and curing before furniture returns, not just the time we spend working. If you’re changing the color, we apply stain and allow full penetration and dry time. We then flow on polyurethane coats, screening or buffing between coats for adhesion. We finish with a final buff and leave a cure period so the finish hardens fully before you move furniture back.
Which finish should you choose?
We offer oil-based and waterborne polyurethane, plus hardwax-oil for a natural matte look. If matte is the appearance you want, ask about hardwax-oil when discussing the job. Choosing a finish and choosing a stain color are separate decisions, so tell us both the color and the finished look you want.

What if the floor has been exposed to water?
Pittsfield has FEMA Zone A floodplains and wetland areas around local waterways. Before refinishing affected floors, we check the home’s location and history of water exposure. Tell us about any past flooding or water damage when you request an assessment.
What does a stain color change cost?
Changing the stain color adds $1 to $3 per square foot to the hardwood floor refinishing cost. When you request a quote, let us know whether you want to keep the existing color or change it, and which finish you’re considering.

Questions Pittsfield Customers Ask
What color hardwood floors never go out of style?
Natural medium brown tones (like walnut or classic oak) have enduring appeal. Light natural finishes (unstained white oak) and rich dark browns (espresso) also maintain popularity. Neutral tones adapt well to changing decor. Avoid extreme colors or heavy distressing for long-term versatility. When refinishing, consider how the color complements your home's permanent features.
What should I ask when choosing a hardwood floor refinishing contractor?
Key questions: Are you licensed/insured? Can you provide references? What's your process (grits used, coats applied)? Do you offer a warranty? How do you handle dust containment? What's the expected timeline? Will you move furniture? Avoid contractors who don't assess your floor's condition first or can't explain their methods in detail.
